But Natick wasn’t satisfied with just one. Two quickfire goals less than a minute apart — first from Lydia Proia, then from Emilia Sousa — sent the fourth-seeded Redhawks past No. 5 Braintree, 3-0, Thursday night in a Division 1 quarterfinal. Emilia Sousa Natick | Forward | 2029 Sousa impressed once again for the Redhawks, holding her own against older opponents, winning 1-on-1 matchups, getting chances and feeding off Nicole Proia well. She made a fantastic play near midfield, winning a 50-50 ball and sending Proia into space. The latter stepped between two defenders for a breakaway. Sousa also had some chances of her own later in the first half, including a shot in tight after Proia sent her ahead on a fast break toward the left post. Sousa also helped set up a great chance for Proia midway through the second half, sending a good ball ahead to Kerrington Sheriff before Sheriff found Proia.

MIAA girls Top 10: Where do the state champs land in final 2025 ranking?

If you believe in jinxes, you might’ve been ready to blame me for any shortcomings for the Redhawks down the stretch. In our midseason report, I predicted they’d win out in the regular season. While Natick didn’t do that, they managed to win out in the postseason, dominating their way to a third title in five seasons. The Redhawks’ offensive depth and smarts were the hallmarks of their run. You had seniors like Nicole Proia, Abby McCauley and Lydia Proia stepping up when it mattered most, along with underclassmen like Kerrington Sheriff and Emilia Sousa, who will be key next season and beyond.
